Can you operate a trench digger? Use a shovel? Lay pipe/ Connect sprinkler heads? Read a map and layout a field according to a map? Read the details below.

Task 1.1 is targeting 9-12 individuals to form 3-4 teams responsible for measuring and transferring the trench layout as shown in Figure 2 for the “Phase 1” region. The goal of this task is a scaled transfer (painting) of the drawing onto the grounds. Teams will be responsible for staking the sprinkler head locations, laying string and painting the trench lines. The teams will be meeting Friday afternoon 3/26/10 to coordinate plans and begin limited lining/painting to enable Task 1.2 to start on 3/27/10.

Task 1.2 is targeting 2-3 individuals per day (per shift) to both help operate a small skid-steer with a trencher attachment and provide manual shovel and pick clean-up work as needed. The goal is to complete the trenching of Phase 1 within as few days as possible as this will be a rental. Ideally we are targeting 10-12 hour work days, 1-2 shifts per day depending on volunteer constraints. The size of the team will be constrained by the single skid-steer and should be targeting 2-3 individuals for each day/shift of the scheduled task.

Task 1.3 is targeting as many individuals as possible. Core members will ideally have some PVC plumbing experience as the system will be comprised of CL 200 PVC pipe and fittings (threaded, glued and pressure fittings). The goal of this task is to install and assemble the entire in-ground irrigation system. We will be forming teams who will be responsible for: 1) carrying and laying out the irrigation materials & hardware, 2) possible fine tuning of the trenches with shovel and pick, 3) assembling and connecting the piping and sprinkler heads, and 4) connecting and wiring of the zonal valves.

Task 1.4 is targeting individuals who own a shovel and rake and are not afraid of some manual labor. The goal will be to manually backfill with boot compaction and hand rake leveling of all trenches in preparation for seeding by the Town Recreational Department. This task can be full day and/or part day and only requires daylight and a volunteer with a shovel, rake and pair of boots. As previously noted, this project is critically dependent upon the volunteer efforts of the Town of Poughkeepsie Soccer Club members. If you are able to volunteer or provide access to any equipment which will make this project easier please respond to

Lstamper@optonline.net

Please provide your phone # if possible, the Task #, dates and times you are available. If you believe you have direct experience and/or access to resources please make note of it in your response. We will be pulling this list together and attempting to form the teams required to complete the listed tasks. Once the teams are formed we will be following up with next steps to all volunteers via email and phone.
