Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who are we?

The Town of Poughkeepsie Soccer Club is made up of a Board of Directors who are all non-paid volunteers. We serve the community by running the youth soccer program in partnership with the Town Recreation Department. The recreation department and the Town provide us Greenvale Soccer Complex. They maintain the building, goals, and fields, including lining and mowing grass. The Town recently provided the funds to pave the parking lot from a trust fund for parks and recreation.

2. Where are the games played?

Most intramural games are played at Greenvale Soccer Complex on Route 376/New Hackensack Road in the town. In some cases where we don't have enough teams, games are played at the local fields of other clubs such as Lagrange, Wappingers or Fishkill. These are called "inter-town" games and there are none of these games outside of southern Dutches county.
Travel games are played at Greenvale and away games can be up to an hour away in Northern Westchester or Ulster county or areas of Dutchess County.

3. When are games played?

Intramural games are played on Saturday.
Travel games are played on Sunday.

4. When are practices?

Intramural practices are usually one night a week. Based on information collected at registration, we try to put your child on a team where they practice on a night you have indicated on the registration form.
Travel practices are usually twice a week and the best time for most players and the coach is determined at an initial meeting of the team.

5. When will we be contacted by a coach about the start of play in September?

Intramural coaches should be contacting the players on their team around late August but this will depend on the coaches availability or whether anyone has volunteered to coach in your child's age group. .
Travel coaches may contact players mid August or earlier.

6. When will we get uniforms and a schedule of games?

Uniforms are distributed to coaches at a general meeting prior to Labor Day weekend.
Schedules will be distributed by coaches and will depend on when they are aware of intertown games.

7. Does the Poughhkeepsie Soccer Club need coaches and other volunteers?

YES! We can always use volunteers to help with the administration of the Club and to coach or assistant coach.

8. What are the benefits of volunteering?

If you are a head coach of a team or serve on the board, you will have one of your children's registrations refunded or applied to the following season.
